Image Tube Summary: Generation 1, the most basic night vision technology, will amplify available light several thousand times allowing the user to see moderate distances in the dark. Built in Infrared Illuminators give light "boost" to the Gen 1 units allowing them to work. The next step up from Gen 1 night vision is Gen 2 which is a very big step in price but it's an even bigger step up in performance and longevity. Basic users will find Gen 1 to be pretty good however there really is no comparison to the higher generations of night vision equipment.

Designed primarily to be a Goggles System for hands free application, this unit can also be used as a compact Monocular or can be attached to a camera for the nighttime photography. This high-resolution 1st Gen.+ Night Vision unit comes with 1x magnification, but can be optional 4x or 8x. Surprisingly, even though we gave the ATN Viper a heavy coated glass lens, we were still able to keep its weight down to only nine ounces. So for any activity you plan on doing which requires Night Vision and hands free operation, the ATN Viper delivers superior results.
